Vietjet Air opens HCMC-Sydney route

After Melbourne, Vietnamese budget airline Vietjet Air has opened a new direct route connecting Ho Chi Minh City and Sydney.

The flights connecting HCMC and Sydney will operate from April 12, 2023, with six flights per week.

The HCMC-Sydney route every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday will take off at 7:30 p.m and land at 7:20 a.m (local time).

The Sydney-HCMC route every Monday, Thursday and Saturday will take off at 10:15 a.m and land at 4:30 p.m (local time).

Vietjet opened more than 20 new routes last year, focusing mainly on the Indian market, connecting economic and tourist centers including New Delhi, Mumbai, Hanoi and HCMC. As of December 31, 2022, the airline operated a total of 103 routes.

In 2022, it carried 20.5 million passengers on 116,000 flights. Domestic passenger transport increased by 20% compared to 2019 and was a key factor leading the recovery.

Vietjet Air reported a loss of VND2,171 billion ($92.58 million) in 2022, while in the same period last year it made a profit of VND122 billion ($5.2 million). The company's revenue in the year reached VND39,342 billion ($1.68 billion), a three-fold year-on-year increase, according to its consolidated financial statement.

In 2023, Vietjet has set a target of high revenue thanks to the opening of the Chinese market and promoting the exploitation of potential international markets including India, South Korea, Japan, and Australia.

The Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company is listed on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange as VJC. It closed trading on Friday at VND103,100 ($4.37).

Vietjet Air will offer tens of thousands of promotional tickets from only zero Vietnamese dong for passengers during the golden week from February 14 to 20, 2023, applicable to both routes connecting HCMC with Melbourne/Sydney at www.vietjetair.com and Vietjet Air mobile app, with a flexible flight period from now until October 29, 2023.
