Vietnam has 3 new deputy prime ministers
The National Assembly, Vietnam’s highest legislative body, on Monday passed a resolution approving the appointment of Nguyen Hoa Binh, Ho Duc Phoc and Bui Thanh Son as Deputy Prime Ministers for the 2021-2026 term.
Following the appointments, the cabinet for the 2021-2026 term now includes Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and five Deputy Prime Ministers: Nguyen Hoa Binh, Tran Hong Ha, Le Thanh Long, Ho Duc Phoc and Bui Thanh Son.
Nguyen Hoa Binh, 66, comes from Quang Ngai province. He is an associate professor, with a doctorate degree in law.
Binh is a Politburo member for the 13th term - the current term, and a Party Central Committee member for the 11th, 12th and 13th terms; and a National Assembly member for the 13th, 14th and 15th terms.
Nguyen Hoa Binh used to hold many positions in the police sector, such as deputy head of the General Department of Police and director of the Police Department for Investigating Crimes Related to Economic Management Order, both under the Ministry of Public Security. He later became deputy Party chief and Party chief of Quang Ngai province.
In August 2011, Binh became head of the Supreme People’s Procuracy and held this position for nearly four years before being elected by the National Assembly to the position of Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court in April 2016.
Ho Duc Phoc, 61, comes from Nghe An province, He holds a doctorate degree in economics. Phoc is a Party Central Committee member for the 12th and 13th terms and a National Assembly member for the 14th and 15th terms.
He used to work for a long time in Nghe An province, holding the positions of vice chairman and then chairman of the Cua Lo town people’s committee; and then Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Nghe An provincial People’s Committee.
In March 2013, PHoc became Nghe An’s Party chief and Chairman of the provincial People’s Council. Three years later, he held the position of State Auditor General. Phoc has been Minister of Finance since April 2021.
Bui Thanh Son, 62, comes from Hanoi. He has a master’s degree in international relations.
Son is a Party Central Committee member for the 12th and 13th terms, a member of the National Defense and Security Council, and a National Assembly member for the 14th and 15th terms.
Son used to hold many positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, such as deputy director of the Academy of International Relations, director of the Foreign Policy Department, assistant to Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
In January 2016, he was assigned to be a permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. Son held this position for nearly five years before becoming Minister of Foreign Affairs in April 2021.
