Vietnam's Ministry of Information and Communications will check over fake advertising content on social media platforms like Facebook and YouTube, Minister Nguyen Manh Hung said Friday.

Speaking to the National Assembly, he said such fake advertising appeared mainly on these cross-border social media platforms, with many going against Vietnamese law.
New rules and regulations have been made available to crack down on such content, Hung said, adding that fake online content on Facebook, YouTube, and the like has already become rampant.
He also called on other ministries and state agencies as well as local administrations to join hands with his ministry in the fight.
In addition, Vietnam needs to build a law on protecting individual data in the time to come, the information minister told the legislative body, since social media platforms have constantly collected such data.
Minister of Public Security To Lam said the NA Standing Committee should promptly kick off a decree on individual data protection.
The information minister, then, said his ministry would within this year comprehensively examine all mobile network operators in Vietnam in collecting individual data and will expand its scrutiny to the post office system and social media platforms.
