Export of Vietnamese fruits and vegetables to the U.S. in the first seven months of the year jumped 67% year-on-year, reaching over $316 million, according to preliminary data from Vietnam Customs.

Other major markets also showed strong growth in the period: Japan up 21%, the Netherlands 37%, Australia 32%, the UAE 56%, and Malaysia 62%. By contrast, exports to South Korea and Thailand - both still among the top 10 markets - fell 3% and 40%, respectively.

China remained Vietnam’s largest export market, with imports valued at $2.1 billion in the seven months, down 15% from 2024. The U.S., however, recorded the fastest growth rate, securing the second position among Vietnam’s top markets.

Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports in August totaled nearly $759 million, down 0.8% from July and more than 11% lower year over year.

For the first eight months of 2025, the country's exports of these items reached over $4.6 billion, a decline of over 2% from the same period last year.

According to Dang Phuc Nguyen, general secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (Vinafruit), American consumers are particularly drawn to products such as bananas, guava, dragon fruit, fresh coconuts, and mangoes.

Nguyen of Vinafruit explained that August’s overall export slowdown compared with June and July was due to reduced durian shipments, as the Central Highlands has yet to enter peak harvest season.

With fresh and frozen durian supplies limited, export volumes declined. He expects shipments to pick up in the coming months as the harvest begins, driving growth once again.
