35AWARDS honors imagery from Vietnam

"Early Dew on Long Coc Tea Hill", "Thung Mountain at Sunset" or “Bike with Flowers” are some of the outstanding Vietnamese photos that entered the seventh annual 35AWARDS.

35AWARDS is a major international event initiated in 2015 by the creators of the professional photo community 35photo.pro. Each year, the competition has five juries from 50 countries evaluating entries.

The "Early dew on Long Coc Tea Hill", taken by Nguyen Tan Tuan on a morning of December 2021, entered the top 100 best photos of the Aerial photography.

Long Coc Tea Hill is located in Tan Son district, Phu Tho province, about 125 km from Hanoi, and about 70 km from the center of Viet Tri town, capital of Phu Tho. The “oasis of tea” makes Long Coc dubbed “Ha Long Bay of the midland”.

Long Coc is considered as one of the most beautiful tea hills in Vietnam, attracting many tourists and photographers.

"Fisherman visits fishing nets" of Nguyen Tan Tuan was named among the Daily Life top 100. The photo was snapped at Bien Ho in Gia Lai province.

Bien Ho is a natural freshwater body located seven kilometers northwest of Pleiku town's center and 800 meters above sea level. It encompasses two connected lakes in the middle of a pine forest.

The lake, a renowned tourist attraction, is considered a ‘pearl’ in the Central Highlands. It not only provides water for the whole region but also the main source of livelihood for many locals.

"Thung Mountain at sunset", taken by Cao Quoc Tuan, entered the top 100 best photos in the Daily Life category.

Located in Quoc Toan commune of Tra Linh district in Non Nuoc Cao Bang Global Geopark in the northern border province of Cao Bang, Thung Mountain, also known as Angel Eye Mountain, is a popular travel destination. One of the mountain’s most notable features is a hole with a diameter of up to 35 meters close to its summit.

“Bike with flowers”, taken on Hanoi’s “ceramic street” by Nguyen Phuc Thanh, won the first prize in the Daily Life category. The photo, captured in November last year, depicts a traditional flower street seller cycling in Hanoi.

The ceramic wall on Yen Phu dike, along Red River, was created between 2007 and 2010. This is an artwork to celebrate the 1,000-year anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi. Guinness World Records recognized it as the longest ceramic painting in the world, about 3.85 kilometers long.

The artistic wall passes through the districts of Tay Ho, Ba Dinh, Hoan Kiem and Hai Ba Trung. The ceramic bears the imprint of northern Vietnam’s Bat Trang, Chu Dau, and Phu Lang pottery villages.

"Water lily season", snapped by Cao Ky Nhan, entered the top 100 best photos of the Daily Life category. The photo was taken in December 2021 at Chau Thanh district, Tay Ninh province in the south.

Tay Ninh has many plains, typically flooded during the rainy period each year. Water lily season usually lasts from September to December.

A photograph named “Feeding the ducks”, taken by Cao Ky Nhan, picked up the first Motion category prize. Nhan took the photo in July 2020 at Tra O lagoon, Phu My district, the south-central province of Binh Dinh.

Tra O lagoon, also known as Chau Truc, is a natural brackish water body offering visitors a wild and poetic beauty, along with a chance of immersion in nature.

"Products made from water hyacinth" was taken by Huynh Thai Bao at the hyacinth knitting handicraft workshop in Phu Yen province, south-central Vietnam. The photo entered the top 100 in the Daily Life category.

Water hyacinth is a familiar aquatic plant to river dwellers in Mekong Delta. It used as a raw material for knitting handicraft products to serve the needs of the domestic and export markets.

The "Ferryman" by Tran Ngoc Anh entered the top 100 beautiful photos in the Landscape category. The photo was taken in February 2021 in a corner of a flooded forest in Tuyen Lam Lake, Da Lat town, Lam Dong province.

Tuyen Lam Lake (Paradise Lake), six kilometers to the south of Dalat, covers 350 hectares. It was created by Tia stream – head water of Da Tam River. Nobody knows when and why it was called Tuyen Lam, but maybe because of the grandiose nature surrounding it. Tuyen stands for stream, and Lam, for forest.

"Sunset in the field of Chau Giang village" in Kien Khe town, Thanh Liem district, the northern province of Ha Nam entered the top 100 best photos in the Daily Life category. Nguyen Gia Bao shot the photo on a late autumn day in November 2021.

"Tan Thanh sea dawn", taken by Tran Minh Dung, entered the top 100 best photos in the category Taken by phone. The photo captures dawn in April 2021 at Go Cong town, Tien Giang province in the south.

In Go Cong, fishing in Tan Thanh Sea is a long-standing custom. From May to October of the lunar calendar, young people typically visit the area to snare their catch in a "xiep".

Xiep comprises a traditional type of fishing gear used by coastal fishermen in Go Cong, made of two long and straight bamboos combined into a V-shaped frame. On the bamboo frame, a thick net is strung in the shape of an umbrella. When pushed forward, shrimp and fish are trapped in the net.

The seventh 35AWARDS attracted 124,800 photographers from 174 countries and territories, with more than 470,500 images, from aerial, daily life to landscape, motion, and wildlife imagery. The contest also selects the top 100 best photos as voted for by readers.
