FedEx forms strategic tie-up with Viettel Post in push for Vietnam expansion

FedEx Express and Viettel Post, an arm of Vietnam's military-run telecom giant Viettel, have announced a strategic partnership with a view to strengthening nationwide delivery capabilities and enhance cross-border logistics connectivity.

Under the agreement inked last month, starting April 26, Viettel Post serves as FedEx’s nationwide operating partner in Vietnam, supporting an upgraded operating model to improve efficiency, flexibility, and service quality.

The partnership came following FedEx’s cease of cooperation with local firm Song Binh Trading and Services Co., Ltd.

At the signing ceremony, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan highlighted logistics as a critical backbone of the economy, emphasizing its evolving role as strategic infrastructure that directly impacts national competitiveness.

He noted that Vietnam’s logistics development strategy for 2025-2035, with a vision to 2050, focuses on modernizing infrastructure, accelerating digital transformation, and promoting green logistics.

“The cooperation between FedEx and Viettel Post not only enhances capacity but also creates tighter integration between global and domestic networks, contributing to a logistics system that is both deep domestically and broad internationally,” Tan stressed.

Masamichi Ujiie, SVP and president, North and South Pacific at FedEx, said that Vietnam remains a key market in its regional growth strategy. He reaffirmed the company’s long-term commitment, noting that the partnership will enable faster, more flexible services with stronger global connectivity.

Viettel Post CEO Phung Van Cuong stated that the collaboration is expected to handle nearly two million shipments annually, with total volume exceeding 26,000 tons, connecting Vietnam to more than 220 countries and territories.

The partnership will cover key logistics services across the value chain, including operations, collection, last-mile delivery, customs clearance, warehousing at major aviation hubs and logistics centers, as well as distribution of FedEx services in Vietnam, Cuong elaborated.

FedEx entered in Vietnam in 1994 and has since become a key player in fostering connections between Vietnam and the global market. In April 2025, the company launched a new flight connecting Southeast Asian countries, including Vietnam to the U.S.

Mid last year, the company transitioned to a direct-serve presence in Vietnam amid the Southeast Asian country’s growing international shipping demand.

FedEx now operates a total of 42 weekly flights out of Vietnam to the rest of the world.
