At-the-close strong demand pushes VN-Index up 6 points

The VN-Index, which represents the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE), gained 6.21 points, or 0.56%, to 1,107.53 on Friday thanks to strong demand at-the-close (ATC).

The major bourse saw over 902 million shares changing hands for over VND16.5 trillion ($702.7 million), a sharp fall of VND7.2 trillion from the previous session. There were 190 gainers and 191 losers.

VND of VNDirect Securities led the market in matching value with nearly VND800 billion ($34 million), followed by GEX of Gelex Corp., DIG of DIG Corp., and DGC of Duc Giang Chemicals with VND500-700 billion each.

The VN30 index, which tracks the performance of 30 largest-cap stocks, rose 8.39 points to 1,100.85, with up to 18 tickers gaining. MSN of Masan Group was the largest contributor to the VN-Index, gaining over 3%.

Banking stocks showed good performance, with TCB of Techcombank expanding 2.05%, MBB of MBBank 1.25%, STB of Sacombank 1.81%, VIB of Vietnam International Bank 2.41%, TPB of TPBank 1.36%, MSB of Maritime Bank 3.15%, and LPB of LienVietPostbank 3.41%.

Securities stocks also gained well. SSI of Saigon Securities increased 3.91%, VND of VNDirect Securities 4.7%, HCM of Ho Chi Minh City Securities 1.92%, VCI of Viet Capital Securities 2.35%, and VIX of VIX Securities by 4.67%.

Among the real estate tickers, HCG of Quoc Cuong Gia Lai Corporation hit its ceiling price, NVL of Novaland went up 2.82%, HDG of Ha Do Group 4.17%, and PDR of Phat Dat Real Estate Development Corp. 3.68%.

Production and retail codes saw good transactions while energy and aviation stocks closed in red.

Foreign investors turned net buyers on the HoSE after two consecutive selling sessions to the tune of VND40 billion ($1.7 million). They mainly net purchased VND and SSI.

The HNX-Index on the Hanoi bourse increased 0.82 points to 227.6, while the UpCOM-Index on the unlisted public company market inched up 0.17 points to 84.19.
