Deputy minister recommends US firms build data centres in Vietnam
Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Phan Tam has called on U.S. cloud computing enterprises to look into developing large-scale data centres in Ho Chi Minh City and Danang.
While receiving Jason Oxman, president and CEO of the US-based Information Technology Industry Council (ITI), on Tuesday, Tam said that trade and investment cooperation between the U.S. and Vietnam has become robust.
In the field of information and technology, Vietnam aims to promote cooperation and work towards fairness and mutual benefits with partners around the world, especially with technological powerhouses like the U.S., Tam said.
The deputy minister noted he expected ITI to act as a bridge connecting Vietnam’s technology industry with companies in the U.S.
He also provided updates about IT policies in Vietnam, including the development of 6G and the national digital transformation programme, with a focus on digital infrastructure.
Stressing Vietnam's favorable investment attraction policies for high-tech fields, Tam urged U.S. companies to consider investments in Vietnam, especially in developing data centres in HCMC and Danang, where projects to build regional financial centres are already underway.
In response, Oxman said that ITI members have shown special interest in Southeast Asian markets, especially Vietnam, in the context of global supply shifts.
If Vietnam develops 5G/6G standards that are compatible and consistent with global standards, especially in testing and certification, the country can attract investments in device manufacturing, he said.
