Ensuring safe operation of 220kV Thuan An substation in HCMC amid typhoon season
In order to promptly respond to complex weather developments during the typhoon season and minimize damage caused by natural disasters, inspection and reinforcement of power grid infrastructure is always a priority of National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT).
Among these, the 220kV Thuan An substation in Ho Chi Minh City plays a key role in ensuring continuous and stable electricity supply to support production, daily life, and socio-economic development in the area.

Trinh Dinh Chinh, head of Ho Chi Minh City Transmission Team 2, directly inspects the 220kV Thuan An substation in the city.
Trinh Dinh Chinh, head of Ho Chi Minh City Transmission Team 2, on September 23 conducted on-site inspections at several substations under his management. Among them, the 220kV Thuan An substation is one of the critical facilities supplying electricity to the inner city and nearby industrial parks.
Upon the inspection, Chinh said he highly appreciates the proactive spirit of the Thuan An operation team. At the same time, he reminded them of urgent tasks to ensure safety during stormy conditions, such as drainage systems, roof reinforcement of on-site facilities, and protection of outdoor electrical cabinets from environmental impacts.
Accordingly, it is necessary to check and ensure the condition of the water drainage pump system so that it is always ready to prevent flooding that could damage equipment. Roofs, especially at control rooms and utility buildings, must be reinforced and inspected to prevent damage from strong winds.
Outdoor electrical cabinets must be sealed and covered to prevent rainwater intrusion, which could cause short circuits or equipment failure. Around-the-clock duty should be strengthened, with backup equipment and materials prepared in advance for timely troubleshooting.
Continuous communication with disaster prevention and rescue authorities at all levels must also be maintained to ensure effective coordination in response and recovery if needed.

Inspection and assessment of the drainage system to prevent equipment flooding.
Proactive inspections and preventive measures before the typhoon season not only help ensure the safety of personnel and equipment at substations but also maintain uninterrupted electricity supply for residents and businesses - a vital factor for socio-economic development, particularly in HCMC, the country’s economic hub.
