Foreign investors increase net stock purchase

Foreign investors continued to be net buyers on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE) on Tuesday to the tune of VND1,852 billion ($77.96 million), up 94% from the previous session.

This marked their 22nd consecutive net purchase session. Total net purchase value hit nearly VND19 trillion ($799.8 million) in the last 22 sessions.

Foreign investors mainly net bought HPG of steel maker Hoa Phat, STB of Sacombank, SHB of Saigon-Hanoi Bank, CTG of VIetinbank, VHM of Vinhomes, VCB of Vietcombank, and MSN of Masan Group; while net selling VRE of Vincom Retail, VHC of Vinh Hoan Corp, and FUEVFVND of of ETF DCVFMVN DIAMOND.

The VN-Index, which represents the HoSE, decreased 15.27 points or 1.47% to 1,023.13, with up to 362 losers and only 79 gainers. More than 1 billion shares changed hands for over VND17.46 trillion ($735 million).

The VN30-Index, which tracks the performance of 30 largest-cap stocks, plunged 20.43 points or 1.95% to 1,029.79, with only four gainers and 24 losers.

In the VN30 basket, VNM of Vinamilk and CTG of Vietinbank had the most positive impact on the market, rising 2.2% and 1.6% respectively.

On the other side, NVL of Novaland Group hit its floor price, HPG dropped 5.2%, and VPB of VPBank went down 3.6%.

The red color overwhelmed many major groups like banking, securities, construction and real estate.

Groups recovering at the end of the session included oil and gas, health care and steel.

Notably, the aviation group made an impression, with HVN of national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines and VJC of budget carrier Vietjet expanding 4.9% and 0.1%, respectively.

The HNX-Index on the Hanoi bourse went down 4.71 points to 207.53, while the UpCOM-Index on the unlisted public company market fell 1.09 points to 71.03.
