Fulbright University Vietnam receives $1.5 mln from Google to boost AI education
Fulbright University Vietnam has received a $1.5 million grant from Google to advance artificial intelligence (AI) research and education in the Southeast Asian country.
Scott Fritzen, president of Fulbright University Vietnam, announced the grant on Monday during an AI discussion between Google’s chief scientist Jeff Dean and students at Fulbright University Vietnam.

The grant will help Fulbright University Vietnam integrate AI into all academic programs, develop AI-related majors and minors in its undergraduate curriculum, and equip students with AI application skills.
It will also support the university in recruiting additional AI experts to expand teaching, enhance AI-related research by faculties and students, and foster collaborative initiatives with academic and industry partners in Vietnam and internationally.
Global giants have been pushing AI activities in Vietnam. In July, Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training and Intel jointly launched an AI training course for university lecturers in Hanoi. The 225-hour training course will benefit 27 lecturers from eight science-technology universities in Hanoi, building a foundation for a competent AI workforce in the country.
In May, Samsung Vietnam and the National Innovation Center (NIC) jointly launched the Samsung Innovation Campus (SIC) 2023-2024, a technological talent training program, at the NIC facility in Hanoi. SIC 2023-2024 offers two courses each on AI, Internet of Things (IoT), and Big Data, for about 200 students from Vietnam National University and FPT University, the top ones in technology in Vietnam.
