HCMC bourse trading value lowest in nearly two months
The trading value on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE) on Thursday plunged nearly 32% from the previous session to more than VND6.6 trillion ($281 million), the lowest since early March.
The cash flow ran into some tickers in the banking, securities, real estate, and industry groups.
Vietnam's benchmark VN-Index, represented by the HoSE, inched up 0.27 points, or 0.03%, to 1,049.25, with 179 gainers and 176 losers.
The VN30 index, which tracks the performance of the 30 largest-cap stocks, lost 2.53 points to 1,053.61.
Stocks of securities firms showed their negative performance, with SSI of Saigon Securities down 0.94%, VND of VNDirect Securities 0.34%, VCI of Viet Capital Securities, 0.48%, HCM of Ho Chi Minh City Securities 0.98%, FTS of FPT Securities 1.71%, BSI of BIDV Securities 1.34%, and CTS of VietinBank Securities 2.03%.

In the banking group, red covered VCB of Vietcombank, VPB of VPBank, TCB of Techcombank, ACB of Asia Commercial Bank, EIB of Eximbank and VIB of Vietnam International Bank. Meanwhile, OCB of Oriental Commercial Joint Stock Bank and LPB of LienVietPostBank expanded by 1.09% and 1.23%, respectively.
Seafood and textile tickers became the focus of attention as GIL of Binh Thanh Import - Export Production & Trade JSC hit its ceiling price; VHC of Vinh Hoan Corp. increased 3.17%, ANV of Nam Viet Corp. 2.5%, FMC of Sao Ta Foods 1.05%, MSH of Song Hong Garment 2.98% and STK of Century Corp. 2.17%.
Meanwhile, retail stocks closed in red, with MWG, PNJ, and FRT of Mobile World Investment Corp., Phu Nhuan Jewelry, and FPT Retail, respectively, down by 0.25%, 0.9%, and 1.33%.
Foreign investors turned net buyers on the HoSE to the tune of nearly VND53 billion ($2.25 million) after net selling over VND470 billion ($20 million) in the previous session. They mainly net purchased STB of Sacombank, HPG of steel maker Hoa Phat and SHB of Saigon-Hanoi Bank.
The HNX-Index on the Hanoi bourse went up 0.76 points to 206.61, while the UpCOM-Index on the unlisted public company market fell 0.26 points to 77.85.
