Mekong Delta city close to completing site clearance for Vietnam-Singapore industrial park
Can Tho city has completed 91% of the site clearance for the first phase of the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) Can Tho, and is hoping to complete it in September.
Nguyen Van Hieu, an alternate member of the Party Central Committee and Party chief of Can Tho, followed up on the project at a Tuesday meeting with municipal authorities.
He asked relevant agencies to focus on resettlement of citizens in what would become new urban areas, pushing the economic growth of the city, the heart of the Mekong Delta.

Pham Duy Tin, head of the management board of industrial parks and processing zones in Can Tho, said resettlement deals have been struck with 556 out of 602 households in the area. Of these, 471 households have handed over their land lots totaling 267 hectares, or 90.96% of the total.
Tin also said that a settlement area has not been completed for the remaining 131 households.
A representative of VSIP Can Tho said at meeting that about 20 businesses have approached the industrial park about leasing land for projects with potential investments of $200 million. He urged provincial authorities to help speed up the IP project to welcome businesses.
Construction of the VSIP Can Tho, the first such facility in the Mekong Delta, began in September 2023. Once completed, the 900-hectare industrial park is expected to employ 100,000 people and attract investments of $3.5 billion. The first phase of 293.7 hectares will provide jobs for 20,000-30,000 people, it is estimated.
VSIP Can Tho has been designed as a smart and sustainable industrial park that aims to become a food processing-distribution hub in southern Vietnam with a logistics network and supporting infrastructure to serve investors in the supply chain. At the groundbreaking ceremony, 12 investors signed memoranda of understanding (MoU) to lease land at the VSIP.
