Ho Chi Minh City is seeking more than VND940 trillion ($40.46 billion) in private investment capital for 197 projects in areas like transport infrastructure, smart urban areas, agri, manufacturing, and environment protection.

The People's Committee of HCMC has approved the city’s list of projects calling for investment in 2022.

The VND33,555 billion ($1.44 billion) project group of expressways and national highways connecting to surrounding localities includes the 53.5-kilometer HCMC-Moc Bai Expressway linking HCMC with Tay Ninh province, the National Highway 50 trunk road, and the extended Vo Van Kiet road (section from Ring Road 3 to Long An province boundary).

The group of elevated road projects includes the No.1 elevated route from the Cong Hoa intersection in Tan Binh district to Phu An Bridge in Binh Thanh district and the elevated route No.5, which coincides with the Ring Road 2 (National Highway 1) section from the Station 2 intersection to the An Suong intersection. The projects call for $1.41 billion in total investment.

A total of up to $18.4 billion is required to fund 12 urban railway projects. For instance, Metro Line 2’s phase 2 and phase 3 call for about $1.5 billion and $2.7 billion, respectively.

Phase 2 will cover sections from Ben Thanh to Thu Thiem and from Tham Luong to Tay Ninh Bus Terminal in Districts 1, 2, 12, while phase 3 will cover Tay Ninh Bus Terminal to the Tay Bac Urban Area section in District 12, Hoc Mon district and Cu Chi district.

The bridge project group seeks $883 million, including Thu Thiem 4 Bridge, Can Gio Bridge, Vuon Lai-Vam Thuan Bridge and a pedestrian bridge.

The groups of water port investment projects, smart city projects and smart traffic port projects request about $534 million, $96 million and $203 million, respectively.

The city also seeks a total $1.74 billion for 12 projects in environment protection, waste treatment, water treatment, and flood control.

About $175 million is needed for commercial and service developments. Projects like urban decoration and home development require a total of $2.25 billion.
