Harris declared the new U.S. support in Thailand’s Bangkok while she was speaking to civil society and business leaders after the close of a 21-member APEC bloc meeting on Saturday.

This new funding will go to the Japan-U.S.-Mekong Power Partnership, or JUMPP, according to the White House.

Through JUMPP, Japan and the U.S. partner with regional nations to promote sustainable energy.

JUMPP supports the Mekong subregion’s pursuit of energy security while encouraging greater regional power flows, clean energy integration, decarbonization, and resilience, the White House stated.

The Mekong subregion is also internationally called the Greater Mekong Subregion, or GMS, which covers China’s Yunnan Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam. It is the trans-national region of the Mekong River basin.
