Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and Petrovietnam's subsidiary PV Gas on Tuesday held an online meeting to review progress on the latter's LNG supply project for the Quang Trach II and Quang Trach III power plants in Quang Tri province.

They also review coordination in technical, investment and commercial matters to ensure the synchronized development of the project. The meeting was co-chaired by EVN deputy general director Nguyen Tai Anh and PV Gas deputy general director Huynh Quang Hai.

During the meeting, PV Gas provided an update on the LNG supply project, saying it expects to complete the internal appraisal of the project’s feasibility study and submit it to the Ministry of Industry and Trade in August this year, EVN's news portal reported.

The company recently worked with Vietnam Electricity's (EVN) Power Project Management Board No. 2 (EVNPMB2) to conduct field surveys at the Quang Trach Power Center, where the two sides discussed preliminary plans for the gas pipeline route, the location of the landfall station (LFS) and gas distribution station (GDS) and the gas delivery point within the project site.

Representatives from PV Gas PMC, the Quang Trach thermal power project and EVNPMB2 exchanged technical information to facilitate implementation of the LNG supply system for Quang Trach II and III.

A key focus of the meeting was aligning the development schedule of the gas infrastructure with construction of the power plants. Under the current plan, Quang Trach II is expected to require LNG for commissioning from April 2029.

EVN requested that PV Gas continue reviewing and proposing appropriate solutions to ensure gas supply will be available in time for the plant’s testing and commercial operation.

The two sides also discussed technical specifications, including gas flow rate, pressure and temperature for regasified LNG supplied to Quang Trach II, which will serve as the basis for finalizing the plant’s design and feasibility study.

EVN assigned its technical units to work closely with PV Gas to complete the required engineering data and ensure the project design proceeds on schedule.

The two sides agreed to continue coordinating on the pipeline route, the location and land allocation for gas facilities within the Quang Trach Power Center, while maintaining regular communication among technical, investment and commercial teams to promptly address issues arising during implementation.

Regarding the draft gas sales agreement (GSA), EVN and PV Gas said they would continue discussions to finalize outstanding provisions and support the overall timetable for the LNG supply project.

The Quang Trach II and Quang Trach III LNG-fired power projects, located at the Quang Trach Power Center in Phu Trach Commune, Quang Tri Province, are designed with a combined capacity of around 3,000 MW.

The projects are expected to become an important source of additional electricity supply for Vietnam’s power system, enhancing operational flexibility, supporting the integration of renewable energy and contributing to lower emissions.

EVN is the project investor, while EVNPMB2 is responsible for project management and implementation.
