The government has approved a VND3,426 billion ($147.7 million) investment in building infrastructure at the Lien Chieu port in Lien Chieu district, with a total planned area, including sea surface, of 450 hectares and to be completed by 2025.

The port is planned to become a key international cargo hub in the central region, handling 100,000-ton vessels and container ships with a loading capacity of 6,000-8,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units).

It would help ease traffic at Danang's Tien Sa and Son Tra ports and along inner-city roads, as well as strengthen regional transport connections.

Publicly-funded components like breakwaters, sea dredging, and roads linking expressways to the port complex would soon complete procedures for bidding, with construction expected to begin in early September, Ho Ky Minh, standing vice chairman of Danang People's Committee, said Tuesday.

Many foreign and domestic investors have shown an interest in privately-funded segments like ports, wharves, and logistical areas.
