Government okays two new wharves at central Vietnam port

The Ministry of Transport has approved investment for two additional wharves at Thua Thien-Hue's Chan May Port, and has directed the central province to seek project investors.

The Ministry of Transport has approved investment for two additional wharves at Thua Thien-Hue's Chan May Port, and has directed the central province to seek project investors.

The two wharves, named No.4 and No.5, are part of Vietnam's master plan on seaport system development in the period of 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.

They are 540 meters long in total and could handle ships with a capacity of 70,000 deadweight tonnage (DWT) once complete.

Wharves No. 1, 2, and 3 in Chan May can now receive ships of 50,000 DWT, with a total wharf length of 910 meters.

Chan May is a main port on the sea route connecting Singapore, the Philippines and Hong Kong. It is located between the two largest city/province in central Vietnam, Hue and Danang.

The port also the closest gateway to the East Sea, internationally known as the South China Sea, and connects central Vietnam to the lower-middle region of Laos, northeastern Thailand and Myanmar.
