International visitors to Vietnam by air reached 232,000 in April, up 502% year-on-year, indicating the country's tourism rebound as international routes resumed post pandemic.

The number of international passengers using Vietnamese airlines in April surged 214.7% against the same period last year, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV).

Tan Son Nhat airport in Ho Chi Minh City received 40% of international arrivals. International visitors to the airport tripled from 2,000 on March 15 to 6,000 a day during April 27-28, the Southern Port Authority reported.

Vietnam fully reopened its tourism market from May 15 as Covid-19 had been put under control, while vaccination coverage was high.

National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines said it will increase the frequency of flights on eight routes to Japan and South Korea from May 15, and restore three routes to South Korea from June 1.

From May 15, the airline will add one to two flights per week to routes between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya, and resume flights between Da Nang and Tokyo from July 1.

The carrier will operate an additional three to four flights per week on the routes between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Seoul from May 15. This means Vietnam Airlines will have flights every day on these routes.

From June 1, Vietnam Airlines will resume flights between Hanoi and Busan, and between Da Nang and Seoul. It will resume flights between HCMC and Busan from July 1. The frequency of these routes is three to four flights per week.
