Michelin Guide to scout Danang for star worthy food
Danang has become the third Vietnamese city after Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to be scouted by Michelin Guide inspectors.

"We are absolutely delighted to continue the Michelin Guide’s journey in Vietnam. After a bright beginning earlier last year in Hanoi and HCMC, the addition of Danang to the Michelin Guide’s family is another proof of the vibrancy and quality of Vietnam’s culinary scene, as well as of the richness and authenticity of its local food culture," said Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guide.
"Our inspectors are currently in the field to realize a restaurant selection we will be proud to share in June not only with local gourmets but also international food lovers and travelers," he added.
A globally acclaimed touristic destination, Danang also attracts visitors with its culinary attractions.
"It has been a successful ambassador for central Vietnam cuisine and Michelin Guide scouts have been impressed with the quality and variety of local specialties on offer, including Mi Quang (Quang noodles), bun cha ca (fried fish cake noodle soup) and the famous banh xeo (Vietnamese pancake)," Michelin Guide wrote in a release.
An abundance of restaurants that display fresh, live seafood as well as street food delicacies have also grabbed the scouts’ attention. They have been enjoying the experience of sitting on roadsides to sample daily gourmet fare like a bowl of congee with braised duck.
Danang also boasts a lively fine dining scene with local chefs making the most of local produce and international chefs who have fallen in love with the city and added their hometown flavors to the city’s culinary map.
The Michelin Guide scouts will assess local restaurants anonymously, collectively and independently using five criteria including the quality of food, quality of the ingredients, mastery of cooking techniques, harmony of flavors and personality of the cuisine.

The 2024 restaurant selection of the Michelin Guide Hanoi, HCMC, Danang will be announced at a Ho Chi Minh City ceremony in June 2024. In a historic first for the country, in June 2023, the Michelin Guide awarded its prestigious stars to three Vietnamese restaurants in Hanoi and one in HCMC. All four restaurants – Gia, Hibana by Koki and Tam Vi in Hanoi and Anăn Saigon in HCMC – received a one-star rating.
The Michelin Guide, the world's most well-known culinary ranking organization, uses a "star" rating system. A restaurant that "has good quality food, worthy of stopping to enjoy" gets one star while one with “excellent food quality, worthy of a visit" gets two and three stars (highest ranking) indicate a location with "excellent food quality, worthy of planning to come enjoy it in person".
