Le Tien Chau appointed Hai Phong city Party chief

Le Tien Chau, vice chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, has been appointed Secretary of Hai Phong city's Party Committee for the 2022-2025 term.

Le Tien Chau, vice chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, has been appointed Secretary of Hai Phong city's Party Committee for the 2022-2025 term.

The committee announced the decision of the Politburo, the Communist Party's premier decision-making body, on Monday.

Le Tien Chau has a doctorate in law and a certificate in advanced political theory, and has held a number of senior positions.

The Politburo recognizes that Chau has consistently tried to make positive contributions to localities, agencies and units, said Truong Thi Mai, a Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, and head of the Party Central Committee's Personnel Affairs Department.

Chau, 54, is a native of Tay Ninh province and previously worked at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Law before becoming director of the Southern Region Agency of the Ministry of Justice in Ho Chi Minh City cum Principal of the Vi Thanh Law School. 

From September 2014 to January 2016, Chau worked as chairman of the Justice Ministry Party Committee's Inspection Board and director of the ministry's Department of Personnel Affairs. 

In January 2016, he was appointed rector at the Hanoi Law University, and in June 2016 as Deputy Minister of Justice.

In March 2018, the Party Central Committee's Secretariat appointed Chau Deputy Secretary of Hau Giang province's Party Committee. 

On April 17, 2018, the People's Council of Hau Giang elected Chau as Chairman of the provincial People's Committee. In August 2020, he was appointed Secretary of Hau Giang's Party Committee.

In May 2021, Chau became Deputy Secretary of the Vietnam Fatherland Front's Party Committee, then Vice Chairman and Secretary General of the Vietnam Fatherland Front for the 2019-2024 term.
