Phu Tho approves $200 mln Japanese investment in solar cell project

Phu Tho province has awarded an investment certificate for a $200-million solar cell factory to Japanese-invested Vietnam Sunergy JSC (VSUN) that will be built between January and October next year.

Phu Tho province has awarded an investment certificate for a $200-million solar cell factory to Japanese-invested Vietnam Sunergy JSC (VSUN) that will be built between January and October next year.

The 13-hectare project at the Cam Khe industrial park will employ 700 people and use eco-friendly technology. VSUN, a subsidiary of Japan-headquartered Fuji Solar, has been operating in Vietnam since 2015.

Phu Tho currently operates seven industrial parks and two industrial clusters. In the year to October 20, the northern province attracted five new projects with a registered capital of $189.4 million and $270.2 million in additional capital for 17 operational projects.

In August, the NEVN Investment and Development JSC proposed a solar panel factory worth VND968 billion ($38.93 million) in the central province of Quang Tri, with a designed output of 2,460 panels or 800 MW a year.
