Party Central Committee members Nguyen Thanh Phong, Bui Nhat Quang, and Huynh Tan Viet were dismissed Monday for work violations.
At the 13th Party Central Committee’s sixth plenum that started Monday, committee members voted and agreed for the trio to be removed from the 13th Party Central Committee.
They include Nguyen Thanh Phong, deputy head of Central Economic Commission; Bui Nhat Quang, head of Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences; and Huynh Tan Viet, Secretary of Party Committee of Central Agencies' Bloc.
Previously, on July 8, the Politburo warned Nguyen Thanh Phong for his violations while holding the position of deputy secretary of HCMC's Party Committee and the city's chairman.
Phong was found to have violated regulations on Party members’ conduct and leaders' responsibility to set an example.
He is responsible for the violations and shortcomings of HCMC’s Party leadership and people’s committee in the 2016-2021 term; directly responsible for his own violations and shortcomings in performance of duties.
The Politburo, a premier decision-making body of the Party, assessed that Phong’s violations "have caused serious consequences that are difficult to remedy, causing a great loss of state property and budget as well as frustration in society and among cadres, adversely affecting the reputation of Party organisations, the local government, and Phong personally."
On September 30, the Politburo warned Bui Nhat Quang, head of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, and asked relevant authorities to take disciplinary action against him.
Quang was found to have violated the Academy Party Committee’s principles in Party organization and activities and working regulations, leading to disunity. He violated the regulations on Party members’ conduct and leaders’ responsibility to set an example; lacked responsibility, showed loose direction and management, and lacked inspection and supervision.
As a result, the academy and a number of its member units had many long-standing violations in personnel affairs; management of finance, assets and public investments; management of scientific research and training; handling complaints and denunciations; following the instructions and conclusions of higher-level Party organizations.
Bui Nhat Quang’s violations and shortcomings were assessed as "causing serious consequences, internal disunity, frustration among cadres and Party members, adversely affecting the reputation of Party organizations, Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences and his own."
On July 22, the Politburo warned Huynh Tan Viet, former Party secretary of Phu Yen and former chairman of the province's legislature body over his violations in performance of duties.
As leader, Viet was mainly responsible for violations and wrongdoings of Phu Yen's Party units and directly responsible for violations and wrongdoings in performance of personal duties.
His violations and shortcomings caused serious consequences, leading to great damage to the state budget; reducing the prestige of Party organisations, the local government and Viet personally; and causing bad public opinion and anger in society.
In January 2021, the 13th Party Congress elected the 13th Central Committee with 180 official members and 20 alternate members. To date, three members have been expelled from the Party, including former Hanoi mayor Chu Ngoc Anh, former health minister Nguyen Thanh Long and former secretary of Hai Duong’s Party Committee Pham Xuan Thang.
Tran Van Nam, former secretary of Binh Duong’s Party Committee, was removed from all Party positions. Three others were dismissed from the Party Central Committee, including Nguyen Thanh Phong, Bui Nhat Quang, and Huynh Tan Viet.
The moves mean the 13th Party Central Committee currently has 173 official members and 20 alternate members.
