Khanh Hoa police have arrested two employees of Sacombank's Cam Ranh branch for suspected embezzlement of money from the private bank's customers.

Nguyen Thi Thanh Ha, 47, former deputy branch manager, and Ngo Thi Hong Nhan, former cashier, were arrested Wednesday.

Two other employees, Nguyen Tra My and Ngo Nu Hong Hai, have also been placed under investigation, but not detained.

The four are suspected of embezzling VND100 billion ($4.02 million) from the bank's customers.

The suspected embezzlement was discovered when the depositors could not withdraw their money from their bank accounts and reported the issue to the police.

The Khanh Hoa branch of the State Bank of Vietnam has asked Sacombank to clarify the issue.

It said that if the staff had taken advantage of the bank's prestige to embezzle its customers' money, the bank would be responsible for repaying the customers.

Sacombank has laid off the four employees and transferred related documents to the provincial police for investigation.
