Vietnam major index marks 6-session gaining streak

The VN-Index, which represents the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE), increased 2.98 points, or 0.26%, to close at 1,168.4 on Friday, marking its sixth consecutive gaining session.

The major bourse saw 220 tickers gaining and 192 losing, with over 1.04 billion shares changing hands for VND20.9 trillion ($884 million), an increase of VND4.2 trillion ($177.6 million) from the previous session. Cash flows mainly ran into the financial-banking, real estate and industry groups.

The VN30 index, which tracks the performance of 30 largest cap stocks, went up 4.48 points to 1,160.59, with 13 gainers and 14 losers.

The biggest contributors to the VN-Index gain were FPT of FPT Corp., HPG of steel maker Hoa Phat, and VJC of low-cost carrier Vietjet Air.

Meanwhile, STB of Sacombank had the most negative impact on the market as its price plunged 3.33% to VND29,000 ($1.23), marking its sharpest fall in the last four months.

Its trading value hit a record high of VND2.15 trillion ($90.9 million), higher than the previous record of VND2 trillion made in late March 2021.

Securities, aviation and seafood groups closed in the green while banking, insurance, oil and gas, and chemical stocks showed poor performance.

Foreign investors were net sellers on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE) to the tune of over VND300 billion ($12.7 million). They mainly net sold STB, VNM of Vinamilk and VPB of VPBank.

The HNX-Index on the Hanoi bourse rose 0.22 points to 230.19, while the UpCOM-Index on the unlisted public company market gained 0.08 points to 86.29.
