State-owned Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) on Thursday launched subsidiary VNPT AI, aiming to bring Vietnamese AI products to international markets.

VNPT has systematically invested over many years in technology capabilities, including 20-petabyte data infrastructure, the ability to process nearly 20 terabytes of data daily, a comprehensive product ecosystem, and a high-performance computing system with hundreds of petaflops that continues to expand.

These foundations will be key for VNPT AI to develop large-scale AI models capable of meeting nationwide deployment requirements, the group stated on its website.

Alongside its infrastructure, VNPT AI brings together more than 200 AI and data science experts, trained both domestically and abroad.

VNPT general director Huynh Quang Liem said AI has been identified as the group’s new strategic focus.

“On December 8, 2025, VNPT officially issued its AI Strategy under the new landscape. The establishment of VNPT AI represents a concrete and decisive step to implement that strategy, positioning AI as a core capability, a growth driver, and a new competitive pillar for the group. VNPT AI will become a new driving force and a strategic spearhead for VNPT,” he emphasized.

Liem noted that VNPT AI aims to lead in researching, developing, and mastering AI models. In terms of products, the company focuses on solutions with high practical applicability, initially deployed internally as a “launchpad” for domestic market development, before gradually expanding to global markets.

VNPT has developed over 100 specialized AI models, processing more than 2 billion requests and serving around 40 million citizens, while supporting more than 200 businesses and numerous government agencies nationwide.

In 2025, the corporation estimated consolidated revenue at VND61.25 trillion ($2.33 billion), with the parent company contributing VND48.09 trillion, reaching 101.2% of its assigned target.

Consolidated pre-tax profit totaled VND6.6 trillion ($250.71 million), including VND5.37 trillion from the parent company, achieving 103.7% of its plan.

The group’s total state budget contribution reached VND6.08 trillion ($230.95 million), of which the parent company accounted for VND4.89 trillion, meeting 100.8% of its assigned target.

Nokia has extended its long-term partnership with VNPT through a new agreement to upgrade and expand radio infrastructure across the country. The deal was announced at a business event as part of the Finland trip by Vietnamese Party chief To Lam in October. The new pact focuses on the Hanoi area, border provinces, and the southern region, marking an important step in advancing the nation’s digital connectivity.

Earlier in the same month, VNPT and Qualcomm officially launched the VNPT-Qualcomm Excellence Center (VQEC), the first facility in the country to operate under an original design co-development model using Qualcomm’s core technologies.

VNPT leads the center, which will also become one of Qualcomm’s Authorized Design Centers. The VQEC aims to become a regional innovation and R&D center, connecting stakeholders across Vietnam’s technology ecosystem, from enterprises and research institutes to startups and universities. It will specialize in developing intelligent electronic devices, network equipment, and AI-driven computing platforms, helping Vietnam strengthen its position in global value chains.
