Vietnam defeat S Korea on penalties, finishing 3rd in U23 Asian Championship
After a tense penalty shootout (2-2 draw after 120 minutes), Vietnam U23 defeated South Korea U23 7-6 on penalties to secure third place in the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Championship.
The AFC U-23 Asian Cup is a biennial international football competition organized by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for the men's under-23 national teams of Asia.

From a counter-attack on the left wing at around the 30th minute, Vietnam's Dinh Bac sprinted forward and passed the ball back to Quoc Viet in the penalty area.
Quoc Viet controlled the ball with one touch, then shot it into the top corner of the net against South Korea.
The added time for the first half saw many clashes between the two sides. Vietnam led 1-0 thanks to the goal by Quoc Viet.
Seonghee was the fifth South Korean player to come on in the first half of the second half. One of the five substitutes, Kim Tae-won, dribbled and shot into the far corner from the edge of the penalty area, beating goalkeeper Van Binh at the 68th minute.
At the 71th minute, from a free kick about 20 meters from the goal, Dinh Bac struck the ball low, bouncing off the ground and heading towards the far corner, beating goalkeeper Hwang Jaeyun. This was Dinh Bac's fourth goal in the U23 Asian Championship finals.
At the 86th, a studs-up tackle in the middle of the field resulted in Dinh Bac being sent off for a reckless challenge. Vietnam played with 10 men for the remainder of the match, under intense pressure from South Korea.
Right in the final minute (97th minute) of injury time, Minha held off defenders well and then finished to beat goalkeeper Cao Van Binh, leveling the score at 2-2.
The two teams drew 2-2 and had to go into extra time.
Despite being down a man, Vietnam held firm against South Korea's pressure during the two extra time periods. The two teams proceeded to a penalty shootout to determine the third-place winner.
Vietnam won 7-6 in the penalty shootout in the third-place match of the U23 Asian Championship.
