Vietnam's EVN discusses energy investment opportunities with Thailand's Gulf Energy
Vietnam Electricity (EVN) chairman Dang Hoang An met executives from Thailand's Gulf Energy in Hanoi on Wednesday to discuss the company's investment plans and the development of energy projects in Vietnam.
The Gulf Energy delegation was led by Chaichawin Tantiyankul, CEO for Southeast Asia Energy, who outlined the group's experience in power generation and its strategic priorities in the Vietnamese market.

Gulf Energy is one of Thailand's largest private power producers, with operations spanning gas-fired power, hydropower, solar energy, battery energy storage systems, onshore and offshore wind projects. The company currently operates more than 16,000 MW of installed capacity worldwide and aims to expand that figure to over 25,000 MW by 2035.
In Vietnam, through its subsidiaries, Gulf Energy has commissioned two solar power projects with a combined capacity of 119 MW and three nearshore wind farms totaling 128 MW in Vinh Long province. The company is also proposing additional wind power and LNG-to-power projects in the country.
Dang Hoang An welcomed Gulf Energy's continued interest in Vietnam's energy sector, noting that the company's existing solar and wind projects have contributed to strengthening the national power supply.
He said Vietnam would need to mobilize a broad range of resources, including international investment, to develop new power generation capacity as electricity demand continues to grow alongside economic development.
EVN supports and is prepared to cooperate with Gulf Energy by exchanging information during the study and development of energy projects in Vietnam, provided they are consistent with national planning, regulatory policies and the safe and reliable operation of the power system, An said.
He also encouraged Gulf Energy to continue working closely with government agencies, local authorities and relevant partners to advance studies and development of wind power, LNG-fired power and other suitable energy projects in Vietnam.
