Vietnamese ministries, government agencies to have new headquarters

The headquarters of 36 ministries and government agencies in Vietnam will be relocated out of Hanoi’s inner districts between now and 2030.

Among those, 12 will be moved to the West West Lake area in Tay Ho and Bac Tu Liem districts; and 24 others will be built in Nam Tu Liem district’s Me Tri area, according to a plan on constructing the headquarters system of Vietnamese ministries and government agencies recently approved by the Prime Minister.

The West West Lake area (Xuan La ward of Tay Ho district and Xuan Tao ward of Bac Tu Liem district) is 5 kilometers from Hanoi's center and 14 km from the Noi Bai International Airport.

The Me Tri area includes Me Tri and Trung Van wards in Nam Tu Liem district. Nam Tu Liem district is home to the My Dinh area, called Hanoi's new admistrative center.

The two areas span 35 hectares and 55 hectares, respectively.

The West West Lake area will house the ministries of Planning and Investment, Industry and Trade, Transport, Construction, Justice, Health, Education and Training, and the Commission for the Management of State Capital at Enterprises, among others.

Meanwhile, among those to be relocated to the Me Tri area are the Ministry of Argriculture and Rural Development and Vietnam Social Security. This area has abundant land that can accommodate more entities in future.

According to the Ministry of Construction's specialized construction investment project management board, the buildings of the new headquarters in the West West Lake area will have about 15-20 floors, along with ancillary and commercial services works that have six to 24 floors each.

Those in the Me Tri area will have 17-25 stories, plus one to two basements and other public construction works.

The state budget will cover the costs to build the headquarters and investment from the private sector will fund the construction of ancillary, commercial services, and public works.

Priority will be given to ministries and agencies with an urgent need to relocate.

Between now and 2025, ministries and government agencies will prepare plans for investing in infrastructure construction in the West West Lake area.

From 2026 to 2030, the construction of the headquarters of ministries and agencies that require immediate relocation will be carried out, while the construction of headquarters of the remaining ministries and public works will take place between 2031 and 2035.

About 18,000 public employees are expected to work in the two areas, including 14,500 in the West West Lake area and 4,200 in the Me Tri area.
