The American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) has recognized 33 members for carrying out high quality, sustainable corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs in Vietnam.

The ninth annual AmCham CSR Recognition Awards held in Hanoi Wednesday recognized the 33 firms for demonstrating the importance of linkages between business operations and society’s needs, and conducting business in a way that creates long-term economic and social value in Vietnam.

The 33 winners were: 3M, AES, AIA, AIPF, Baker McKenzie, BIDV-MetLife, Citi, Coca-Cola, Concordia International School, Corning, Deloitte, Dow Chemical, ExxonMobil, FedEx, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Gentherm, Herbalife, HP Technology, InterContinental Hanoi Westlake, JW Marriott Hotel Hanoi, KPMG, Lazada, Meta, Microsoft, Mondelez Kinh Do, MSD, Pharmacity, P&G, Sky International Preschool, Standard Chartered Bank, Suntory PepsiCo, Unilever, and Regent Garment Factory.

An AmCham release said the award was designed to raise awareness of CSR among AmCham members and the community at large, and to recognize firms with the best CSR programs in Vietnam.

The award is given to companies with high marks in four categories: attention to business objectives and societal needs; creation of long-term economic and social gains; communication and sharing of best practices; and program sustainability.

AmCham chair John Rockhold said at the award ceremony that corporate social responsibility was no longer defined by how much money a company contributed to charity, but by its overall involvement in activities that improved the quality of people’s lives in Vietnam.

“In the past, executives viewed corporate social responsibility as just another source of pressure from their corporate office. But as customers, employees, and society placed increasing importance on CSR, many leaders now look at it as a creative opportunity to fundamentally strengthen their businesses while contributing to Vietnam’s development at the same time,” said Adam Sitkoff, AmCham executive director.
