Airport developer ACV allowed to build new terminal in Hai Phong

The Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) has obtained the government nod to build a new passenger terminal at Cat Bi International Airport in Hai Phong, northern Vietnam’s largest logistics and port city.

Terminal 2 (T2) would require a VND2,405 billion ($103 million) investment from the company’s capital sources, but not loans, and be in service for 50 years, the decision signed by Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh on Friday shows.

The project is to be completed within 18 months from the time of delivery of a clean construction site. Once complete, it will serve domestic flights while the currently operating Terminal 1 will serve international flights.

T2 is designed with a capacity of five million passengers per year. Auxiliary works for the new terminal include the synchronous infrastructure and traffic system to connect with T1.

In its decision, the government requires Hai Phong’s administration to oversee all site clearance work, and ensure effective use of land after site clearance. Hai Phong’s responsibilities also include supervision of the development and accomplishment of the project.

ACV is a key airport developer in Vietnam, with many airports nationwide in its portfolio. The Commission for the Management of State Capital at Enterprises (CMSC) is the parent entity of the corporation.

In recent years, Cat Bi has been listed among Vietnam’s airports with the fastest growth in passenger and cargo volume. It plays a critical role in the socio-economic development of Hai Phong as well as the Red River Delta region.
