Apple supplier Quanta Computer signs deal to build Vietnam factory
Apple supplier Quanta Computer signed an agreement Friday to build a factory in northern Vietnam as part of its supply chain diversification strategy.
The MacBook contract manufacturer, listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) as 2382, signed the deal with authorities in Nam Dinh province to develop the 22.5-hectare plant in My Thuan Industrial Park.

The facility will be the ninth factory worldwide of the Taiwanese company, a world-leading contract laptop maker.
In the first phase, the plant, Quanta’s first in Vietnam and also the first project in My Thuan Industrial Park, is set to cover 22.5 hectares.
Quanta issued a filing with the TWSE on April 17 for this new manufacturing facility, saying the investment would be $50 million.
Established in 1988, Quanta is a Global Fortune 500 company. The manufacturer reported its 2022 net profit at NT$28.96 billion ($949.2 million), down 14% compared with 2021.
The Quanta move follows other Taiwanese electronics makers, including Foxconn, Pegatron, Wistron, Compal Electronics, and Inventec Corp. in increasing investment in Vietnam in recent years.
The U.S.-China trade war has forced Taiwanese manufacturers to relocate factories in mainland China to Southeast Asia, a delegation of the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association (TEEMA) recently said while surveying sites in Vietnam's northern provinces and cities.
