ASIM Telecom rolls out public telecom network

ASIM Telecom, the developer of mobile network Local in Vietnam, has been licensed to establish a public telecom network in the market.

The license allows Local to operate until March 2037. In December 2020, Local became the 8th mobile network in Vietnam, with operations until December 2030.

Last April, Local started trial supply of basic and value-added telecommunications services nationwide with about 100,000 SIM cards using a MobiFone broadband. It has also provided super data packages with high daily capacity, and promoted the development of a digital service ecosystem to create new digital experiences for customers.

The Vietnamese telecom market still has a lot of potential for network operators like Local, as digital transformation has been happening in all areas, said Vu Minh Tri, CEO of ASIM Group, which owns ASIM Telecom.

Local will this year continue its process of technical preparation, develop apps, connect with digital platforms to provide users with finished products, he added.

Currently, the operational mobile networks in Vietnam are Mobifone, Viettel, Vinafone, Vietnamobile, Indochina Telecom, EVN Telecom, and BeeLine. The first three are the market leaders, holding the lion’s share.

The number of Internet subscriptions in the country hit a record last year with nearly 71 million mobile broadband subscriptions and 18.8 million fixed ones, increasing by 4% and 14.6% from 2020, respectively. Internet users account for about two-thirds of the nation’s population of almost 100 million. Last year, Internet traffic grew more than 40% on 2020, , according to the Ministry of Information and Communications.
