The Politburo has recommended that State Auditor General Tran Sy Thanh assume charge as the new mayor of Hanoi.

The Party's premier decision making body also appointed Thanh as the deputy chief of the Hanoi Party Committee.

The decision to recommend Thanh as top executive of the capital city was taken 38 days after former Hanoi Chairman Chu Ngoc Anh was arrested for his involvement in a Covid-19 test kit scam.

Thanh will take over his new position after the Politburo recommendation is ratified by the Hanoi People’ Council, the municipal legislature, which will vote on the appointment.
