Australian property developer Commercial & General has expressed interest in constructing a state-of-the-art cancer hospital in the industrial province of Binh Duong, which borders Ho Chi Minh City.

The company’s executive chairman, Jamie McClurg, met with Binh Duong chairman Vo Van Minh earlier this week to discuss healthcare investment opportunities.

He said his company wanted to join hands with Binh Duong-based industrial property developer Becamex IDC to build a modern cancer hospital in the southern province.

The Adelaide-headquartered firm also has an interest in building commercial centers, McClurg said, adding that it has a project portfolio in excess of $2 billion in end value.

To date, Binh Duong’s administration has set aside 50 hectares for healthcare projects, with 20ha in Thu Dau Mot town for national-level hospitals, and the other 30ha in Bau Bang district for a future medical university. At present, a VND2.3 trillion ($97.8 million), 1,500-bed hospital is under construction in the town.

On May 25-26, 2022, the Vietnamese Embassy in Australia, Binh Duong administration and Becamex organized an investment promotion event in Adelaide city. Becamex had signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperative ventures with Commercial & General.

Becamex is a leading industrial real estate developer in Vietnam. The corporation is the Vietnamese partner in the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park Joint Venture (VSIP) with Singapore’s Sembcorp Industries. The joint venture has developed eight industrial parks across Vietnam.

Binh Duong is one of the biggest manufacturing bases in southern Vietnam, along with HCMC and Dong Nai.
