BIDV, Agribank, VietinBank and Vietcombank continued to maintain their positions as the largest asset holders among Vietnamese banks, totaling VND7 quadrillion ($299 billion) for a first half growth of 9.2%.

BIDV has the largest assets at more than VND1,979,416 billion ($84.6 billion), up 12%. Lending to customers was the main asset growth driver at 75%.

Agribank ranked second with assets hitting VND1,736,517 billion ($74.22 billion), a 1.7% increase compared to the beginning of the year. The main contributor to this growth was investment securities.

In the first six months of the year, the bank's investment securities reached VND139,435 billion ($5.96 billion), 2.2 times over the end of 2021.

VietinBank was third with its assets value exceeding VND1,691,061 billion, up 10.4%. As of June 30 this year, its customer loans had reached VND1,238,483 billion, accounting for 73% of its assets.

Vietcombank placed fourth with total assets of VND1,602,391 billion, up 13.27%. Three main drivers behind the strong asset growth were customer loans, deposits and loans to other credit institutions, and investment securities.

BIDV, VietinBank and Vietcombank are commercial banks with the state as majority shareholder, while Agribank is a wholly state-owned lender.

Military Bank, a joint stock commercial bank, stood fifth with assets of VND658,274 billion ($28.13 billion), up 8.42%. Customer loans accounted for the largest proportion at 61%. Expansion of lending activities was the main factor that helped the bank's asset size increase continuously.

In sixth place was private creditor Techcombank with assets of VND623,745 billion, up 9.67%, its asset growth mainly coming from increase in loans to other credit institutions and other types of assets.

VPBank ranked seventh with assets of VND608,275 billion, up 11.12%. Sacombank with assets of more than VND551,422 billion was eighth.

ACB and SHB ranked ninth and 10th in the list, with total assets of VND543,736 billion and VND522,131 billion, respectively.

Most Vietnamese banks recorded an expansion in asset scale. Five banks with asset growth of over 10% in the first half of the year were: Vietcombank (13.27%), VIB (12.44%), Nam A Bank (11.67%), VPBank (11.12), and VietinBank (10.4%).
