China’s BYD to repair Apple tablets with $375 mln northern Vietnam project

Chinese giant BYD is set to repair Apple tablets at its factory in Vietnam’s northern province of Phu Tho.

According to a recent project report, BYD Electronics (Vietnam) Company Limited is seeking permission to install three production lines for tasks related to glue, serving the repair of iPads, with an hourly capacity of 20,000 cubic meters of glue per line.

The factory, located in Phu Ha Industrial Park of the northern province, is set to repair Apple tablets manufactured by BYD in Vietnam and around the world, with an annual output of 600,000 items.

BYD started investing in the Phu Tho factory 2021 and has so far increased the investment to over VND9,515 billion ($375.3 million). Its latest investment hike was made in August 2023 with $144 million.

In addition to repairing iPads, the factory has an annual output of 14.4 million tablets, 1.87 million plastic tablet covers, 540,000 drone cameras (flycam) of DJI brand, 2.4 million 4G-5G chips and modules, 3.59 million computer mouse components, 8.6 million lithium batteries, and 9.36 million steel tablet covers.
