Chinese firm to provide turbines for central Vietnam wind power plant
Electric Wind Power, a Shanghai Electric subsidiary, has signed a deal to provide wind turbines to the VND1.5 trillion ($60.9 million) Hai Anh Wind Farm project in Quang Tri province.
Shanghai Electric said Friday that provision of eight of its advanced wind turbine units will contribute to green energy transformation in the country and the region. These will be largest onshore wind turbines used in Vietnam to date, the Chinese firm said.
With the contract to supply turbines, Electric Wind Power continues its support for China's Belt and Road Initiative, it added.

Construction of the wind power project, with a capacity of 40 MW, began in December 2023. Once operational, the facility can generate 120 GWh of electricity yearly, earning revenues of VND200 billion ($8.1 million) and paying VND40 billion ($1.6 million) to the local budget per year.
The plant is expected to complete construction and connect to the national grid by November 2024.
Of the 31 wind power plants with a combined capacity of 1,177 MW that Quang Tri has planned, 19 with a total capacity of 713.4 MW have begun commercial operations.
The central province has sought approval to add 4,500 MW of onshore wind power and 2,600 MW of offshore wind power to the national power development plan VIII (PDP VIII). This move can increase Quang Tri’s energy output to 16,000 MW, facilitating socioeconomic growth in the central province.
