Quang Tri province in central Vietnam seeks to hand over land to investors of Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) Quang Tri in the first quarter of this year so construction can begin in the second quarter.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh gave in-principle approval for VSIP Quang Tri in March 2021, with three investors, namely Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park Joint Venture, Amata Bien Hoa under Thailand’s industrial developer Amata, and Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation.

The 481.1-hectare project in Hai Lam and Hai Truong communes, Hai Lang district has a total registered capital of VND2,074 billion ($87.55 million). Its first phase covers 97.4 hectares and has an investment of VND504.39 billion ($21.3 million).

So far, the project has completed some legal procedures like investment registration certification, environmental impact assessment, and 1/2000 design approval.

Pham Ngoc Minh, head of the Quang Tri economic zone management board, said the project is completing legal procedures for connecting with National Highway 1A and the North-South railway. The project has yet to complete site clearance as some households have problems with their legal documents, on-site construction, and others.

However, Hai Lang district is determined to cooperate with relevant households to handle their issues, Minh added.

VSIP Group - a joint venture between Singapore's Sembcorp Development and Vietnam's Becamex IDC - has built 12 IPs across the country to date.

Last week, Singapore's Sembcorp Industries announced new collaborations in sustainable urban development in Vietnam by building five more VSIPs. The Vietnamese government on the same day presented Sembcorp and Becamex with an investment license to develop the 500-hectare VSIP II in Nghe An province.
