C.P. Vietnam ships chickens to Japan, eyes more markets
C.P. Vietnam, subsidiary of Thai conglomerate C.P. Group, shipped its first lot of processed chicken to Japan Tuesday after meeting all food safety and quarantine requirements of that demanding market.
The first shipment was 33.6 tons of processed chicken, CPV Food said.
The shipped products were from the CPV Food plant in the southern province of Binh Phuoc, which the Thai giant says is Southeast Asia’s largest chicken processing facility. The group expects its Vietnam subsidiary to reach other export markets.

The plant in Binh Phuoc province was built with an initial investment of $250 million and has a monthly production capacity of 5,000 tons. The current workforce of about 2,500 will expand as production ramps up further.
Prior to the first shipment, Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries had sent a mission to the plant to make an overall appraisal of the supply and production chain. It acknowledged that CPV Food satisfied the veterinary hygiene requirements of Japan.
C.P. Vietnam CEO Montri Suwanposri said penetrating Japan’s challenging market would bring more opportunities for his company to make shipments to other markets.
He said that right from the first day of factory’s operations, the company was committed to 100% traceability of the entire supply chain from the source of feed ingredients to product processing, ensuring best practices in environmental and animal welfare.
The company also benefited from close coordination from the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s department of animal health in the supervision of poultry diseases so as to ensure safety of the supply chain as well as implementation of sanitation requirements.
C.P. Vietnam was one of only two foreign names (the other being Honda Vietnam) in the list of 2021’s top 10 corporate income taxpayers in Vietnam announced by the General Department of Taxation earlier this month.
