The central city’s management unit of prioritized infrastructure projects has publicized the bid invitation for the package.
The Lien Chieu Port in Lien Chieu district, approved in principle by the central government, consists of two components. The first, component A, needs an investment of more than VND3,400 billion ($136.9 million) from the national and Danang budgets.
Its construction, including dikes, breakwaters (1,170 meters), vessel channels, turning basin, signaling systems for ships of up to 100,000 DWT (6,000-8,000 TEUs), road traffic connection to the port, electricity and water supply infrastructure, and ancillary works, is set to start at end-2022.
Component B, also called the beginning phase, will cover 44 hectares to include two wharves, each 750 meters long. It is calling for private investments.

The government has designated Lien Chieu as one of 11 ports in the first class category which can receive general ships of up to 100,000 tons and container ships up to 8,000 TEUs. It is planned to be a "special port" in the future.
City authorities said they would embark on construction in 2022 and complete the project before 2025 per the Prime Minister's request.
Per Danang’s adjusted development plan dated July 2022, the Lien Chieu Port’s total area is 450 hectares. It will border Hai Van Pass to the north, Cu De river mouth to the south, Danang Bay to the east, and South Hai Van bypass route to the west.
The port will include functional areas like a container terminal able to handle ships up to 8,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in phase one and 18,000 TEUs in the long term.
There will be eight container wharves with a total length of 2,750 meters for vessels of 30,000-200,000 DWT, and a gas terminal for 30,000 DWT gas tankers with six wharves connected to a breakwater via a bridge.
