Danang, a leading beach city in central Vietnam, signed separate memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Friday to beef up their development cooperation.

Chairman of Danang Le Trung Chinh signed respective agreements with USAID mission director for Vietnam Aler Grubbs and ADB country director for Vietnam Shantanu Chakraborty on the sidelines of the Meet Danang 2024 event.

The U.S. Mission to Vietnam and Danang currently partner on a number of shared development priorities, including clean energy, pollution reduction, higher education, and assisting people with disabilities.

Under the MoU signed today, USAID Vietnam and Danang intend to expand their development cooperation to promote innovative solutions in economic growth; clean energy and energy efficiency, environmental protection and climate change response; health; and human resource development.

This MoU will contribute to Danang’s own goals for human resource development and green economic growth, and represents further cooperation of the U.S. in assisting Vietnam to achieve its future sustainable development goals in line with the U.S.-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, announced in September 2023.

Meanwhile, per its agreement with Danang, the ADB is committed to mobilizing and providing finances for Danang to carry out programs and projects to mitigate climate change.

In addition, the bank will support the city in reducing poverty, promoting rural development, enhancing regional integration, encouraging the private sector, and raising governance.

The two sides will also better coordinate efforts to propose and implement ADB-funded projects.
