Danang to train 5,000 microchip engineers by 2030
Danang, a central Vietnam economic hub, is preparing facilities and human resources to strongly develop its semiconductor industry, aiming to have 5,000 microchip engineers by 2023.
City Chairman Le Trung Chinh said that since the fourth quarter of 2023, the city has taken significant steps to develop human resources for the semiconductor industry, with particular focus on integration with artificial intelligence.
He said Danang’s strategy for semiconductor and microchip development focuses on three main areas: infrastructure, human resources and investment incentives.
Chinh noted city delegations have made numerous working visits to the U.S. and collaborated with leading corporations in semiconductor microchip design like Synopsys, Nvidia, Marvell and Intel.

In terms of human resource development, Danang has launched its first training course for source lecturers.
Three universities have started microchip design classes and as many additional universities will begin recruiting for microchip design engineer training, with 170 positions available starting August 2024. Currently, the city has 41 engineers and 59 lecturers providing training in microchip design.
Besides, the city has established the VASA Vietnam training alliance, bringing together five major local universities, Phenikaa University (Hanoi) and Synopsys Vietnam Co., Ltd.
Chairman Chinh said all these measures aimed to meet the needs of businesses that have invested or planned to invest in Danang.
Early this year, the city set up the Center for Research and Training in Microchip Design and Artificial Intelligence under its Department of Information and Communications.
Also early 2024, two major U.S. semiconductor companies, Qualcomm and Marvell, visited Danang for surveys and meetings with city leaders. At the end of April, vice president of worldwide AI initiatives Keith Strier at Nvidia Corporation visited the city as part of the company’s second trip to Vietnam within four months.
In addition to visits from global leaders like Qualcomm, Marvell and Nvidia, Danang has hosted meetings with 22 major corporations and companies in the microchip, semiconductor and AI industries in the first five months of 2024.
In mid-May, Marvell Corporation announced plans to open a chip design office in Danang.
To develop infrastructure, the city is preparing land for concentrated IT parks, software parks and high-tech parks. Danang currently has one high-tech park and three IT parks approved by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
Software Park No. 2, covering over 90,000 square meters and designed to accommodate more than 6,000 employees, is expected to open by this year-end. The city is investing in three new IT parks to support future growth.
