Lego is on track to begin trial production at its factory in the southern province of Binh Duong in the second half of 2024, with official production in early 2025.

Jesper Hassellund Mikkelsen, senior vice president of the Danish toymaker, mentioned the production dates at a Tuesday meeting with Binh Duong Chairman Vo Van Minh. He also expressed appreciation for local authorities who helped factory construction at the VSIP 3 Industrial Park meet deadlines.

Running on renewable energy, the project will have positive impacts on the local ecosystem and help fulfill international emission standards, Mikkelsen said.

Minh pledged that Binh Duong authorities would provide maximum facilitation for the project’s progress. He asked the company to consider developing a Legoland theme park in the province.

The 44-hectare state-of-the-art factory at the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) is designed to be Lego’s most sustainable facility to date, supporting the toymaker’s ambition to achieve a 37% cut in absolute global carbon emissions by 2032.

After announcing a $1 billion investment in December 2021, Lego kicked off factory construction in November 2022. The investment is the largest by a Danish company in Vietnam to date and part of the company’s strategy to expand its supply chain network to support long-term growth and locate production facilities close to its major markets.

In September 2023, Lego established a recruitment center in the province, aiming to hire 500 people towards the end of 2024.
