Danish toymaker Lego to open $1.3 bln Vietnam plant next month
Denmark's Lego will officially open its factory in VSIP III Industrial Park in Vietnam's southern province of Binh Duong on April 9.
Delegations of Binh Duong province, led by the province's Party chief Nguyen Van Loi, and Lego Manufacturing Vietnam, led by general manager Jesper Hassellund Mikkelsen, discussed preparations for the opening during a Tuesday meeting.

Jesper Hassellund Mikkelsen highlighted provincial authorities' support for the project to meet its deadlines. The deployment of the Binh Duong facility is the fatest among Lego factories, the executive added.
For his part, Nguyen Van Loi requested provincial authorities to help Lego with other tasks, such as completing fire safety and electricity preparations by March 30.
He also asked the province to speed up the construction of DT 746, a road connecting VSIP III to other key areas of Binh Duong province and Ho Chi Minh City.
In May last year, Lego COO Carsten Rasmussen told then Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang that this is the toy giant’s sixth plant and first carbon-neutral facility. It is also Lego's largest overseas investment.
Lego kicked off factory construction in Binh Duong in November 2022. The 44-hectare state-of-the-art factory will support the toymaker’s ambition to achieve a 37% cut in absolute global carbon emissions by 2032. The plant is set to recruit 3,000 people.
