Copenhagen-headquartered A.P. Moller Holding is interested in constructing large-scale deep-water container ports and strategic logistics projects in Vietnam, which boasts a coastline of over 3,200 kilometers.
At a meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Hanoi on Monday, Robert Maersk Uggla, chairman of A.P. Moller Holding and chairman of Maersk - the shipping arm of A.P. A.P. Moller Holding is a global business and investment group renowned for its businesses such as logistics, renewable energy, finance, banking, and consumer products.
Maersk Uggla lauded the Vietnamese government’s achievements in improving the business environment and facilitating foreign investment, and appreciated its efforts in digital transformation and green transition.
For his part, PM Chinh highly regarded A.P. Moller Holding and Maersk’s investments in Vietnam since the 1990s which have contributed substantially to the development of the country’s maritime industry and economy.
He also acknowledged Maersk and APM Terminals' vision for building green and smart ports. APM Terminals, an independent division of A.P.Moller-Maersk, specializes in the development and operation of ports and container terminals.
Vietnam, which ranks among the top 20 economies in terms of international trade volume, stands ready to assist foreign investors in investing in logistics projects, Chinh asserted.
The government chief welcomed A.P. Moller Holding’s plans to expand investment in Vietnam, particularly in green and smart port systems, logistics services, and green maritime transport.
He suggested the group consider investing in several projects, such as Lien Chieu port in Danang, Can Gio international port in Ho Chi Minh City, and several other ports countrywide.
Chinh also called on the Danish group to invest in other areas such as digital transformation, green transition, and circular economy; share expertise in port management and operation; and help Vietnam access international financial resources for infrastructure development, including seaports, airports, and high-speed and urban railways.
