The Bac Giang 2 wind power plant, proposed to be located in the former Son Dong district, the former province of Bac Giang (now Bac Ninh province), features nine turbines with a capacity of 5.5-6.3 MW each, tower heights ranging from 130 to 140 meters, and rotor diameters between 171 and 182 meters, according to local media.
The plant is expected to operate for 50 years, with a 20-year economic lifespan and an estimated annual power output of 126,340 MWh. The survey area spans 1,524 hectares.
Total investment is estimated at nearly VND2.11 trillion ($79.92 million), including VAT. Of this, 30% will be equity and 70% financing from loans.
Relevant ministries have been asked to submit their opinions by September 15, 2025, particularly regarding the project's alignment with the approved national and regional planning schemes.
Enertrag SE, headquartered in Germany, specializes in wind power generation, grid infrastructure, storage systems, and green hydrogen solutions. Since its founding in 1998, the company has expanded to employ nearly 1,100 staff across Europe, Africa, South America, and Asia.
Currently, Enertrag SE delivers around 2 billion kWh annually, has installed over 1.8 GW of renewable energy capacity, and manages 6.2 GW worldwide.
A pioneer in green hydrogen, the firm began investing in hydrogen R&D as early as 2008. Today, it is developing several large-scale hydrogen projects, including the Hyphen project in Namibia (8,000 MW, with plans to scale to 10 GW), an aviation hydrogen and kerosene project in South Africa, the Tambor Green Hydrogen Center in Uruguay (350 MW), and a hydrogen-powered rail project in Berlin, Germany.
Enertrag Vietnam, its 100%-owned subsidiary established in 2020, is currently developing Bac Giang 1 and Bac Giang 2 wind power projects.
The company holds VND107 billion ($4.05 million) in equity capital. The Bac Giang 1 project has also secured a €120 million ($140.57 million) medium-term loan commitment from a German financial institution.
Under Vietnam’s Power Development Plan VIII (PDP8) for 2021-2030 with a vision to 2050, Bac Ninh is expected to host around 800 MW of wind power capacity, of which 500 MW is targeted by 2030.
The key wind projects include Yen Dung (150 MW), Son Dong (105 MW), Bac Giang 1 (55 MW), Bac Giang 2 (55 MW), Cam Ly (55 MW), Luc Ngan (30 MW), and Tan Son (50 MW).
The province also plans to develop a 25 MW waste-to-energy plant and 86 MW of rooftop solar power.
