Europe supports Vietnam’s green transformation
The Green Economy Forum & Exhibition (GEFE) 2022 held by EuroCham Vietnam is bringing European innovations and sustainable solutions to Vietnam to support the nation’s green transformation.
The three-day forum in Ho Chi Minh City presents a unique opportunity to build upon meaningful global climate cooperation, for Vietnam and for Europe, EuroCham Vietnam chairman Alain Cany told the Monday opening ceremony.
Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, other high-ranking government leaders, representatives of international development partners and enterprises joined the significant event, whose primary objective is to support Vietnam in achieving its COP26 commitments and the socio-economic development goals specified in its National Green Growth Strategy for 2021-2030. Vietnam targets carbon neutrality by 2050.
Virginijus Sinkevicius, European Commissioner for the Environment, Oceans and Fisheries; and Liesje Shreinemacher, Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation were also present with representatives of European embassies in Vietnam.
Sinkevicius’s presence “here today serves as a clear indication that the European Union and the Commission are fully dedicated to Vietnam's vision for a clean, green, sustainable future,” Cany said.

The first day of GEFE 2022 included a plenary conference that serves as a forum for high-level dialog between European and Vietnamese government representatives and business stakeholders to coordinate and hold discussions on green policy frameworks, national energy plans, and climate risks more generally.
Each of GEFE 2022’s three days will entail panel discussions and seminars on a broad theme, including energy and green financing on day one, waste and sustainability on day two, followed by innovation and entrepreneurship on the third and final day.
As for Schreinemacher, the Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, she is visiting Vietnam on November 28-30 to further deepen the economic cooperation towards green transformation between Vietnam and the Netherlands, especially in the fields of water, logistics, energy, and circular economy.
