The number of fast food outlets in Vietnam surged nearly 12% year-on-year to 1,022 in 2025, according to a newly released report by Q&Me, a market research firm under Asia Plus Inc.

South Korea’s Lotteria and the Philippines’ Jollibee led the market with 222 and 213 stores, respectively.

Both the fast food chains posted notable growth outside Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, underscoring a shift toward provincial expansion after years of focusing on major cities.

Meanwhile, the U.S.’s KFC maintained solid position with 172 locations across HCMC, Hanoi, and other localities.

The American pizza chain Pizza Hut operates 118 outlets, while Thailand’s The Pizza Company runs 74 stores, mostly in central business districts. Domino’s Pizza and Popeyes each counts 59 outlets.

Smaller players are quietly expanding as well. Texas Chicken has 42 stores, while McDonald’s operates 37, primarily in Hanoi and HCMC.

Improved infrastructure, including interprovincial highways and the growth of shopping malls in towns, has enabled fast food chains to diversify their presence beyond traditional mall-based locations, said the report.

According to the IMARC Group, Vietnam’s fast food industry is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.65% in 2024-2032. Key drivers include the adoption of digital technology, such as mobile ordering, delivery platforms, and in-store kiosks.

A report by Euromonitor said that Vietnam’s fast food market posted revenue of VND22.39 trillion ($862.46 million) last year, up 6.8% year-on-year.
