FedEx aims to expand activities in Vietnam airports
Leading courier services provider FedEx is seeking to boost activities in Vietnam, especially in the expanded Tan Son Nhat and Noi Bai airports and the under-construction Long Thanh and Gia Binh airports.
Fedex founder and chairman Frederick Smith made the statement at a Tuesday meeting with Party General Secretary To Lam.
FedEx can help Vietnam improve its logistics capacity and further integrate with the global supply chain, the executive highlighted. Vietnam can develop into a key logistics hub of the region and the world, he added.

Backing FedEx’s plan, To Lam asked FedEx to collaborate with relevant agencies of Vietnam to deploy the expansion. He emphasized that infrastructure development is one of the country's three "strategic breakthroughs” in the new era, in addition to high-quality workforce and reform of institutions.
Tan Son Nhat in Ho Chi Minh City and Noi Bai in Hanoi are two busiest airports in the country. Tan Son Nhat is building its third terminal (T3) to enhance the annual capacity to 50 million passengers, targeting completion in April 2025.
Similarly, Noi Bai is building its second terminal (T2) to increase the annual capacity to 15 million passengers, towards completion in December 2025. Noi Bai is under plan for further expansion to serve 60 million passengers in 2030 and 100 million in 2050.
The under-construction Long Thanh airport in Dong Nai province neighboring HCMC is set to serve 100 million passengers, hence reducing the workload of Tan Son Nhat. The giant airport can serve 25 million passengers yearly in its first phase, which is slated for opening in 2026.
Gia Binh airport in Bac Ninh province neighboring Hanoi, is designed as a multi-functional, military-civil facility with a classification equivalent to 4E (a global standard for large airports). The Ministry of Public Security kicked off the construction in December 2024 and aims to complete it in December 2025.
